Microsoft Kinect that have been modified even be used as three-dimensional scanner during the excavation of archaeological sites in Jordan. This tool makes the scanning process so easy.
"We want to use Kinect to scan the entire building and its surroundings," says Jürgen Schulze, a researcher from the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), University of California-San Diego. In Jordan, the scientists hope Kinect can help them make the catalog that lists the findings.
The computer scientists there Kinect modify so that the camera can work off the field. Currently, the camera can only be used indoors.
Kinect will scan the entire dig site and the data obtained will be used to construct three-dimensional model. According to investigators, three-dimensional image of an ancient cooking tools are more valuable than two-dimensional images. "Detail is better and researchers can better understand the use of artifacts," said Schulze. (National Geographic Indonesia / Alex Pangestu)
